What is eBay?

eBay is the world's online marketplace; a place for buyers and sellers to come together and trade almost anything!

This is a great place to sell almost any type of merchandise, since your items for sale will reach a world-wide marketplace of buyers, looking for just about anything! Just as you can sell almost anything on eBay, you can also find almost anything there to buy!

What are the advantages of selling on eBay?

In most cases, eBay is a better selling venue than through local markets, such as newspaper advertisements, garages sales, etc. This is because it reaches a worldwide market, drives higher sales prices, and is safe and secure.

A world-wide market gives exposure of your item to eBay members ALL OVER THE WORLD (a great deal of our items are shipped outside of the US). This allows you to offer your item to specialized collectors and eBay community members who may be searching just for your item. Advertising locally through the newspaper, etc., has a very limited audience. Therefore, eBay poses for a much better chance of sale, and usually also means higher prices.

For the same reasons, you will be likely to bring in a much higher price through eBay than you would with a garage sale. Remember, at a garage sale buyers try to get you to lower the price, while on eBay they bid to drive the price up!

When do I get paid?

The whole process could take between 3 and 5 weeks.

We list all items in the order they are received. Once listed, an auction runs for seven days. After an auction ends on eBay, we collect the payment from the high bidder. The majority of our customers pay promptly via PayPal, a secure online banking system. Some customers send their payment via money order, and this may take up to a week.

After we receive cleared payment, we promptly ship the items to the winning bidders. We then wait up to 10 days to make sure that the customer has received the item and is happy with it. It may take slightly longer with international sales. At this point, we cut you a check and stick it in the mail!

Is my item worth selling?

We will be happy look your item up for you!

What’s It Worth? will gladly list any item that has an expected eBay price of at least $50-100. Items that are below this value are not worth our time or yours to sell. We determine this value based on previous eBay sales. If you are unsure of the eBay value of your item, we will gladly check for you! Simply bring in your items or call us and we will do initial research on the items to determine if it would be worth listing, free of charge to you!

What will it cost me?

A total of 35% of the final sale price is deducted from the amount you will receive. There is also a $5 listing fee per auction.

What’s It Worth? works on a commission basis. We don’t get paid unless you get paid! 35% plus a $5 listing fee covers our commission as well as pays all associated eBay and PayPal fees – there are no other hidden costs!

What if I don’t want to sell for a low price?

You are obligated to sell your item for whatever the final bid price is. However, there are ways to protect your item from ending at a low price!

Once an item is listed for auction and it has bids, you are obligated to sell to the high bidder. If you have an item that you will not part with unless you sell it for a particular price, we suggest starting the auction at this price so that you won’t lose the item for less.

In order to start your item at a price higher than $9.99, a $20 deposit will be collected upon drop off. If the item sells successfully, the $20 will be deducted from our commission. That means it won’t cost you anything extra in the long run. If your item does not sell, we will give you the option of relisting it for another week on eBay, as long as you lower the starting price. If it sells in the second week, the $20 is still deducted from the commission. If it still does not sell or if you choose not to relist the item, What’s It Worth? will retain the $20 to cover the listing fees we encountered by posting the item on eBay and the time that we put into it. You can pick up your item and sleep soundly that you did not lose it for a lower price than you were willing to accept. There is a minimum $20 commission on this type of auction.
